Golden Globes Hits and Misses

Welcome back. I took a little while to blog about this year's Golden Globes fashions because it is so difficult to really appreciate the clothes on the television set I wanted to wait until the photos came out in the magazines.
So the award for the show with the most misses goes to the case of "Glee". I thought Lea Michele and Diana Argon really should have been wearing more than paper snow flakes. They both are very toned and fit but there are some things that should be left to the imagiination.
As far as the hits, I think this was a much better fashion year than last year. Stacy Kiebler, Sophia Vergara and Charlize Theron were my favorite. I loved the color of Charlize;s gown and felt it was very unique and she was taking risks without going to far. I also thought the hair was done as the perfect accessory for all three dresses.
Leave me a comment giving me your hits and missses.

The New Age of Exercise

Ok, so one of my New Year's Resolutions is weight loss and I have finally found a form of exercise that will hold my interest! (I think) It is the Xbox Kinect. My husband bought it for Christmas as kind of a "family Christmas gift" and I must say it is a really fun activity that burns calories while playing. I think if more kids in the US played this game console, instead of the standard one, obesity would not be such a big epidemic in the country.
So far, the Kinect games we have are the following: Kinect Sports Season 1 and 2, Just Dance 3, Zumba Party, The Biggest Loser, Disneyland, and Victorious (for my 5 going on 12 daughter). EVERY SINGLE GAME leaves me panting and sweating and drinking a bottle of water a time while playing. On some more intense game nights, I even wake up the next morning feeling sore.
I may not have a personal trainer, but to me any form of cardio is a good first step, right? I haven't weighed myself since I started this but I think it will be a good change for my health. I will update my blog at a later date with my progress! My next blog will be about Golden Globe fashion!

Holiday Recovery

Wow! It's been quite a long time since my last blog. It is eleven days into the new year and I've got to say, I am still in vacation mode. I think when the new year begins, the easiest way to recover is to make a resolution. I know the statistics for people keeping their resolutions are very negative, but the resolution I'm talking about isn't one that should last the whole year, but the month of January.
The way I try to recover from the holidays is through organization. Partly due to necessity (my kids get so many new clothes and toya for Christmas I need to make room), and partly to jump start the year, I organize the house. I clean out the kids' clothes and toys and make donations to the salvation army and I do the same for my husband's and my clothes. This year, I even did it with stuff around the house, like old decor, bedding, towels, and kitchen stuff. I have resolved this year to worry less about "stuff" and more about the relationships in my life. By getting rid of the exess and keeping only what I need, I feel this is a good place to start.
Another thing I began organizing was my time. I am still struggling with this but I am trying to budget my time to make room for exercising, planning meals, grocery shopping, and cooking. All of these things will lead to a healthier me but they also takee time out of a day that seems already so full of important thing. My health however, needs to be a priority for 2012.
The last thing I am organizing is my career, I have resolved to take some online webinars and read some professional literature that will improve my efficiency on the job and in essense, free up some minutes to concentrate on my health and my family. I will keep you updated on my prgress and will blog again soon on my newest exercise obesession for 2012!

Lets go Richard Simmons

Now, some of you reading this may be to young to remember Richars Simmons but he was popular in the 80s and 90s for his energetic exercize routines.  So in the spirit of the New Year, I am rejoining my old gym to try and get rid of this pesky baby wait that doesn't seem to want to leave me alone two years later.
See, I got rid of my membership in the first place because I really wasn't getting enoughuse out of it.  No matter what fitness experts say, 30 minutes a day is really not enough to see a motivating difference for me and I get incredibly bored trying to do treadmill and weights for an hour.  I went to a few classes but there weren't enough at convenient times to make a habit.  Since we have home gym equipment, I figured I could do it myself...Obviously not.  So today a coworker really inspired me to try again.
So here I am at the gym, waiting to sign up again and i am so excited to see added classew at good times everyday of the week.  My goal is 35 pounds by summer.  Wish me luck! I'm sure it will be a long and difficult journey but I think I'm up for the challenge :)

Urgent Care quandryi

My kids have both been sick the last week.  Nothing abnormal for the season, just cough, runny nose, etc.  Well one day I got home from work and my son was NOT behaving like his usual boy in his terrible twos.  He was sleeping all day and not eating or drinking anything.  Knowing I could not get an appointment with the pediatrician so we went to the urgent care.

I am a mother with incredibly irrational fears and I wanted to make sure he didn't have spinal meningitis.  After a short wait the doctor comes in and checks is heart/lungs (fine), his ears (fine) and his throat (inflammed according to the doctor).  He prescribes an antibiotic and sends us on our way.  That night, little Noah slept MAYBE 20 minutes at a time.  He would wake up screaming and grabbing his ears.  The next morning I was able to make hims a peds appointment.  The doctor said his throat was fine but after looking in both ears said he has a double ear infection, and a pretty bad one.  We were prescribed another antibiotic (one better for ear infections) and ear drops for pain.

Now not only am I upset about the waste of time and the waste of 10 dollars for the copay and medicine 8 had to throw out, but I wa s more upset that my son had a night of unnecessary pain.    I feel like the uc doctor didn't even truly check him, just shuffled us out with a prescription so we'd assume he did something.  I am not an ignorant person and I know viruses cannot be cured with antibiotics.  There have been numerous times I've taken my kids to their doctor only to get told they had the flu and it would be cured with fluids, rest, and a humidifier and I was okay with that.  I know it doesn't always take a prescription for a doctor to do their job.  I guess some feel it does and urgent cares are use to that. I just wish my son had been correctrly diagnosed.  Has anyone else had this experience.  IMd love to hear your thoughts.  And by the way, Noah is now doing just fine and he's since passed his ear infection on to me...ahhh the joys of motherhood!

Beiber fever, peanut cans, and the Golden Globes

Ok, so every now and then as a parent, you get a moment that makes you feel like you are really doing a good job.  Then there are other times that make you feel...well, not so much.  I guess you can call them my "pinhead and patriot" moments of motherhood.mez's
So my two year old son has been sick and let me tell you, he has one of the most amazing gag reflexes I have ever seen.  Almost nothing will make him put ALL OVER THE PLACE.  We have already chrisened Applebees and a local buffet.  So let me tell you, when he has a cough, we are all anxiously waiting for the dam to break.  Yesterday I saw him coughing and then he walked into the kitchen.  I thought nothing of it until I saw his head in a peanut can, a half full peanut can.  I went over to see what he was doing and he was throwing up in the peanut can.  At least he has learned how to contain it.
Then there is my four year old daughter who is completely IN LOVE with Justin Bieber if that is even possible at her age.  She has a shirt, a CD, wants to go to his concert "so bad" and even wants us to "make a paper on a stick with a heart that says 'I love you" to take to said concert.  The sad thing is when I say, "Sweetheart he's already Selena Gomez's boyfriend," and says, "I know, but when I'm bigger I'm sure she'll be done with them."  One made me proud, one not so much.  You be the judge.
One of my other hobbies is being crazily obsessed with pop culture so of course I watched the Golden Globes and have to comment on the fashion.  I do not know what is up with the puffy sleeves that are so 80s but I wasn't loving it.  I must say my worst dress pick was Angelina Jolie and my best dress pick was Eva Longoria.  I think she looked elegant and timeless especially considering the drama in her personal life.

Here goes nothin..

Teacher.Mother.Wife.Sister.Daughter.Friend.Niece.  These are the roles I play on a daily basis that mean so much to me.  With a four year old and a two year old, there is never a dull moment in my house.  And with 180 fifteen year olds, there is never a dull moment in my career.  So I am starting this blog as an outlet for my creativity, my frustration, and my advice.  I hope I can help you leaarn something from my crazy life, and I hope to learn a lot about myself through this prosess as well.  Here's to an interesting start to 2011 and many fun times ahead...
